Barcelona… and more!

Here are the best day-trip getaways less than an hour away from Barcelona, perfect for a day trip of coast and mountain.
Sitges
This beautiful coastal spot could be mistakenly taken as just another Catalonian town, but Sitges is actually a pretty special place just 40 minutes away on the train from Barcelona. Its hype vibes, beautiful buildings, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere (there are many LGTBIQ+ events throughout the year), and great restaurants make it a sort of Barcelona on a smaller scale.
Montserrat
This place will fulfil the needs of many: those who look for spirituality will find a place to pray because there is a catholic monastery and a church with the most famous image of the Virgin Mary in the area, the Moreneta. For the ones that are into trekking, Montserrat it’s a great sport to enjoy mountain walks in a unique landscape of jagged rock formations. And last but not least, the place is famous for its “paranormal” events: many people go there for UFO-sighting.
Girona
Girona will be as surprising and enchanting; its river, surrounded on both sides by colourful houses, gives the city a dreamlike atmosphere that is enhanced by the old side of the city, which goes back to the Romans.

The Jewish Quarter, which has been lovingly preserved, is a great place to wander; also, the medieval city walls and the Arab baths are very much worth the visit. Girona is, as it always happens in Spain, full of amazing restaurants to try. Also, some chapters of Game of Thrones were filmed here!
Costa Brava
And speaking of Girona, which is the city and also the county in which it is located, part of the coast of it is one of the jewels in Catalonia.

Miles of sandy beaches, stunningly clear-blue water, incredible restaurants and beach spots to try local fish, cliffs and small medieval towns to explore make up much of the Costa Brava region; it is one of the favourite holiday destinations of the people from Barcelona for these many reasons.
Tarragona
Probably an unknown place on the list, it is a city that goes unnoticed because of its location close to the famous sun and sea tourist destinations like Cambrils and Salou.

However, Tarragona has much more to offer: some of Spain’s most well-preserved ruins, including ruins of a Roman amphitheatre and chariot tracks, are here.
