Everyday we become more conscious about our impact on the environment and the long term effects that come along with global warming. With that knowledge comes the desire to help, to make little differences that together will make a big impact.

If you want to achieve eco-citizen status then you have to help out Mother Nature and you never know, you might just save some money along the way 😉. We have provided some tips below to help you and your flatmates make the switch to an eco-friendly lifestyle, recycle more and have money left over to add to the holiday piggy bank.

1. Think green: Your place needs to become environmentally friendly, so what better way than to get some plants and get back to the nature. Plants are nature’s air purifiers, they absorb CO2 and release oxygen. Plants are a must for any eco-citizen and will instantly change the feel of your home. If you have a balcony, then why not build your own miniature garden. What if you don’t have a balcony and your flat is just too small? The answer is Kokedama! Kokedamas are balls of soil covered in moss with can be hung from ceilings, transforming your city flat into an urban jungle 🌱.

2. Let your imagination run wild: Follow the 3Rs: Reduce, Recycle & Reuse. Badi dares your to take up the challenge of making your own furniture. Make a wooden pallet bed or transform an old guitar or skateboard into a unique shelf. Don’t worry if you’re not handy around the house as there are always simple ideas that anyone can do, such as recycling wine corks to upcycle into a doormat or even a coffee table for the living room!

3. Buy second hand for real charm: Head to the flea markets and find some hidden gems that will give your place that “je ne sais quoi” factor!  If you live in London, then there are countless markets to choose from, such as Brick Lane MarketPortobello Road Market, The Big London Flea, etc.

Finally, whether you decide to add plants or give furniture a second home, every little gesture will be helping to keep our planet healthy (and also your bank balance in check 😎).
