We’ve all been there – staring at the computer while sitting on your couch or bed feeling like time is standing still. You haven’t typed a single thing in over five minutes. Perhaps a change of scenery could help boost your productivity?
That’s the great thing about city living, there are tons of viable options for workspaces! So, hop off your couch, grab your roommate and walk through your neighborhood to find some new trendy spots to get some work done!
One of our favorite spots to work in is hotel lobbies. If you find the right one, it is usually filled with enough hustle and bustle to keep you aware of your surroundings, but quiet enough to finish your to-do list. Plus, you get to feel swanky sitting in an ornate NYC building!
Hotels have recently started to encourage non-guests to occupy lobby space, so you are sure to feel welcome. They enjoy having locals working and socializing in the hotel because it gives a more authentic experience that out of town travelers are searching for when staying in a new place. Not to mention, it’s so popular that hotels have even started modifying their lobbies to fit the needs of those looking to utilize the lobby as a workspace!
Here are a few hotel lobbies in NYC perfect for finding a cozy spot in a corner and getting to work:
Flatiron | 20 W 29th St, New York, NY 10001
Free wifi, coffee and food options (even gluten-free brownies), as well as comfy velvet sofas and sturdy work tables filled with people there for the same reason as you! There are also plenty of outlets so you will never be under a full charge.
Midtown | 218 W 50th St, New York, NY 10019
Free wifi, library-style bookshelves lining the walls, and coffee. Also, it’s on the corner of Broadway, so you’re a stone’s throw away from multiple eateries and shopping for that much needed mid-work break. What more could you ask for?
Tribeca | 26 Ann St, New York, NY 10038
You guessed it, free wifi! This hotel also offers a glowing LED wall (perfect for that instagram story) and a working/play space where you can enjoy arcade games and cocktails, the perfect reward for finishing your work on time.
Coffee shops still do the job
If hotel lobbies aren’t your scene, you can always go the classic route by working in a coffee shop. There is something so charming about sipping a latte while studying or typing away on your computer while the sound of grinding coffee beans fills your ears. It’s easy to lose track of time while you work at these shops!
SOHO | 126 Crosby St, New York, NY 10012
Staffed by volunteers, 100% of the profits go to fund Housing Works’ lifesaving services. This is a great place to sit down, grab something to eat or drink and enjoy the atmosphere. You can read, work, write or shop!
Upper East Side | 226 E 83rd St, New York, NY 10028
A quaint little European Cafe perfect for a cup of coffee and a croissant or pastry while working hard. The sound of classical music playing overhead will surely hone in your focus.
Have you moved to a new neighborhood recently and need a new study spot? The best way to find hidden gems is to ask your roommate where they like to go! And where do you find your ideal roommate? Well, Badi, of course!
